Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 15 (ANI): Congress leader Surendra Rajput on Sunday took a dig at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying the government is hosting events to hand out appointment letters instead of creating new jobs. Rajput compared Shah’s actions to those of a postman and criticised the government’s employment record.
Speaking to ANI, Rajput said, “There are over 1.9 lakh vacancies in the police force alone, and lakhs of other positions remain unfilled–whether for teachers or lab assistants. Instead of creating new jobs, the government is merely distributing appointment letters for posts that have already been filled. Uttar Pradesh is struggling with unemployment, Amit Shah ji.”
He further added,”The people of this state need jobs. If you provide employment, the appointment letters will automatically reach them–just like they used to arrive by post. Today, you’re doing what postmen once did. This is nothing to be proud of, Home Minister. Give people jobs; appointment letters are meant to be delivered by postmen, not by you.”
Rajput made the remarks ahead of a major government event in Lucknow where Union Home Minister Amit Shah was scheduled to distribute appointment letters to 60,244 newly recruited police constables.
Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hailed the large-scale recruitment as a “historic moment” for Uttar Pradesh and said it reflects the state’s commitment to strengthening law and order while empowering the youth through employment.
In a post on X, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath termed the occasion as a “historic moment” for the state.
“New Uttar Pradesh of New India’ is going to witness a historic moment today. Under the successful guidance of the respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the resolution of ‘Safe Uttar Pradesh’ is being fulfilled. The dreams of the youth are coming true,” CM Yogi wrote.
60,244 appointment letters will be distributed at the Defence Expo Ground in Lucknow.
Out of the 60,244 constable posts filled through direct recruitment, 12,048 were allocated to women, making it the first time such a large number of female candidates secured appointments in any Indian security force.
In a post on X, DGP of Police stated, “From aspirants to protectors — today, 60,244 dreams march into reality. This historic recruitment drive marks a new dawn for @Uppolice, as one of the largest in the country. Congratulations to every young man and woman who earned the khaki with courage, merit, and determination. Your journey in service begins today. Walk with pride, serve with integrity.”
